Upcoming Event   Freedom Flight Troop Train  Wednesday, July 1

"Railroads At War" now open at the
James H. Andrew Railroad Museum and History Center

Railroads at War is now on exhibit at the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum and History Center. This exhibit, partially sponsored by Humanities Iowa and the National Endowment for the Humanities, highlights contributions railroading made to Iowa and the nation in support of various U.S. wartime conflicts.

This exhibit displays informational banners on several topics including railroading and the Civil War and World War I. Other banners explain how U.S. railroads supported the war effort in World War II, including the economy, national unity, troop trains, and the utility of the railroads in wartime.

More banners include information about women in railroading, Camp Dodge and the electric railway and the North Platte, Nebraska Servicemen's canteen. One banner is devoted to Union Pacific's "Big Boy" steam locomotives and their role in World War II.

In addition to the dozen banners with rare photography, the museum will show archival railroad motion picture footage in the theater.

A combination of artifacts and interactive displays will highlight little-known facts on wartime contributions made by U.S. railroads and the people who worked for them.
See the importance of U.S. railroads in turning the tide of war through the years and how the railroads contributed to Iowa and the nation.

Museum entrance fee is $8 adults(12 and over), $3 children (3-12 yr.), no charge for toddler (under age 3) or free with purchase of select excursion train tickets.

Boone county residents with a disability who require special assistance and would like to attend this exhibit, please call Boone County Public Transportation at 515-432-5038 between 6:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday-Friday. Rides should be requested at least one day before the date of the trip.
